Coronation Street Star Suspended Over Violent Rap Music

Chris Fountain's masked alter-ego The Phantom used lyrics such as "rape a b*tch" in now-deleted YouTube video

Coronation Street star Chris Fountain was suspended from the soap after the discovery of disturbing video featuring his rapper alter-ego The Phantom. In the YouTube clip, which has since been deleted, the actor purportedly boasts about rape and violence against women.

ITV found the lyrics and views expressed in the clip, which has since been deleted, to be "totally acceptable."

According to The Sun, the actor spewed vile lyrics such as, "I will f**k anybody up in the worst way, rape a bitch on her birthday" and "I'll stab you in the face with a diseased needle."

The 25-year-old actor issued a statement, saying, "I would like to sincerely apologise for any offence I have caused. I am deeply ashamed by the lyrics and very much regret my behavior.

The videos were made over a year ago when I was experimenting with music and I've not done anything like it since and nor will I."

The future of Fountain's Corrie character Tommy Duckworth remains uncertain. For the time being, ITV has suspended the actor "pending further inquiries into this matter."
