8 Expectations Of A Wicked Cool Totally Radical MAP Employee

MAP is cool. Working here is definitely one of the best jobs you'll ever have. Show how much you love what you do by sticking to these 8 expectations. Try hard, commit to being committed, and get STOKED for the Spring 2015 semester.

1. Save the HOMEwork for HOME.

When at MAP, do MAP things. If you spend your entire shift doing homework, that leaves additional work for the next person that comes in. If you've got extra down time during your shift, ask Amanda, Jeffrey, or Mike what needs to be done. Something always needs to be done.

2. Look like you know what you're doing by wearing your uniform!

Wear your uniform and your name tag when you are on the clock. You look professional, approachable, and like you know what you're doing. MAP staff are always hanging around the desk, the wall, and the bike shop when off the clock. That makes things confusing. If you're wearing your uniform, patrons know exactly who to talk to.

3. Say it with body language.

It's 7 am and you were up late last night packing for your trip. As much as you don't want to be awake right now, you want to look super stoked for your participants! Remember that body language can give away your feelings even if you don't intend to. Be conscious of how you carry yourself, and show how happy, excited, and welcoming you can be.

4. Be on time and learn how to use the new clock-in machine.

You're getting paid for being here, so make sure you clock in correctly! Check your time sheets online, and notify the boss-people if something doesn't look right. Speaking of clocking in... make sure to get here on time! Work can't start without you, and remember, you're getting paid for this.

5. Commit to being committed.

Take your job to the next level. Offer to teach a new climber some techniques, encourage your participants to challenge themselves, go the extra mile while tuning up a bike. Know important upcoming dates, and be sure to come to all staff meetings. Commit to being committed. If you love what you do, it shows in everything that you do.

6. Up your communication game!

Be sure to effectively communicate with your supervisors and co-workers. Get on top of your email game, and be sure to always follow up afterwards. Talk to everyone about MAP. Tell your mom, your professor, your roommates, your friend's lizard. Promoting our programs increases awareness and allows us to design bigger and better programming.

7. Pay attention to detail.

BE CONSCIOUS OF YOUR PROCESS. No matter what department you're in, be sure to know the ins and outs of MAP. Fill out all waivers and paperwork neatly and completely. Stick to CRS protocol, and if you don't understand something, just ask. Go into every work shift with a process of how you will accomplish your responsibilities. Be aware of your surroundings, there are systems in place to help you take the most direct path.

8. Be a Team Player: Step up and Help Out

As much as we would like to be playing outside all the time, life and school sometimes gets in the way. If a co-worker can no longer work a shift, lead a trip, or facilitate a workshop, try to volunteer and help out. Understaffed shifts are inconvenient for everyone, but with enough notice and cooperation, we can be sure to find coverage. We're all a team! Our actions impact one another! Help out! Be the best MAPer you can be!
