The Buzz Is On About Benedict Cumberbatch Becoming Doctor Strange

According to Mike Fleming Jr in this article at Deadline.com, Marvel may have made its choice for Sorcerer Supreme. Reportedly they could be in negotiations with Benedict Cumberbatch to take on the role of Doctor Strange for the MCU. Annie Wu even created her own version of Doctor Strange, but the image is not official so don't get too crazy.

Like all interesting things, the internet has exploded at the mention of this. From cries of delight to the usual outright loathing of the possibility of Benedict taking on the role. As with all things generated by the "Cats who run the Internet" we have a massive showdown between fans as everyone puts up their prospects for characters possibly getting their moment on the big screen. Names pop out from Joaquin Phoenix who is out, to others like Johnny Depp, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, Ewan McGregor, Oded Fehr, and Ethan Hawke just to name some of them.

A lot goes into the choices made for the actors, characters, stories and the creative teams that will bring this all together. With the internet willingly to explode every 12 hours of newsfeeds or so it starts to become a blur of intense debate and imagination. Leaving the folks at Marvel, and the team of Scott Derrickson as Director with Jon Spaihts as the Writer, with quite the full load as everyone sits on the edge of their seat with their laptop/cellphone/tablet at the ready to weigh in with their thoughts.

It's not every day that a brilliant neurosurgeon takes on the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme, defender of Earth from all things magical and mystical with his very own Sanctum Sanctorum in New York.

The character was introduced in Strange Tales #110 back in 1963, even having a TV movie 'Dr. Strange' made in 1978 starring Peter Hooten.

Doctor Strange has a great story to finally be told on the big screen, I for one cannot wait to see what they bring us. I also am willing to wait things out with a healthy dose of patience and an open mind. Cinematic surprises are always welcomed to have their day with the Super Nerd.
