This Artist Imagines What Iconic Rooms From Pop Culture Would Look Like In Quarantine

Imagine being quarantined inside Michael Scott's office!

Meet Amrit Pal Singh, a 3D illustrator and game designer from Delhi, India. He has an immense love for plays, experimentation, world cinema, and Nutella. Amrit recently created a series called the "3D Rooms Project" in which he imagines what iconic rooms would look like in quarantine. These 3D illustrations are inspired by popular gems from arts, literature, and cinema.

BuzzFeed India spoke to Amrit about how this idea came to him. He says, "While in quarantine, mostly bound to my room in complete isolation, I pondered over the different rooms that I could spend a lifetime in and began illustrating them. After finishing the series, I started using them as Zoom backgrounds and people started asking me about them."

"I felt that Bedroom in Arles by Vincent van Gogh would be the perfect room to start with. I have a replica of the original painting right above my desktop screen in my studio. Having stared at it routinely during the past year, it was naturally the first room that came to my mind," he added.

The Simpsons first aired in 1989, when Amrit was born, and he thinks of it as an institution. "I feel that most of us are living the quarantine like Homer Simpson and that is not necessarily a bad thing," he says.

This rather *ordinary* office room is from a paper company called Dunder Mifflin as The Office is Amrit's favourite show of all time. "Michael Scott's office is the epicentre of everything in a show that helps people find beauty in the mundane."

    Indeed!

"The Jetsons reminds us of the nostalgic utopian future we all wanted to see. Now that we are so close to it, I thought why not make the Jetsons' living room a part of this project."

Here's Bilbo Baggins' study from The Hobbit. Wouldn't it be a dream to write stories in a room full of books?

Here's Jerry’s room from Tom and Jerry. Amrit says, "The show has had a lot of studios working on it over the years so there was no particular iconic room that Jerry had. Also, it makes sense for a mouse to keep shifting his room. But Jerry had a very noticeable taste and craftsmanship for all the rooms he had. So I combined a bunch of them and made my own variant."

And here's Amrit's representation of Murph's room from the movie Interstellar. "There is something about space travel that really excites me and an ordinary room representing space travel is a room I want to create. Interstellar, in my opinion, is the best sci-fi movie out there and Murph's room was a thrill to make. I took inspiration from the Tesseract in the movie and used a palette of browns and golds to represent the room," he explains.

Finally, here's the Mirror of Erised from the Harry Potter franchise. Amrit says, "I picked this particular room because it's not depicted a lot in fan art as compared to other places around Hogwarts. The Mirror of Erised is stunning and possibly the only artefact that will help you understand yourself."
