It's Been A Decade Since The Release Of "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" And Here's What Its Cast Looks Like Now

Yes, it really has been ten years since we first danced to Balam Pichkari!

Now that the 10th anniversary of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is upon us, it's time to celebrate director Ayan Mukerji's second offering that now serves as a cult classic for our generation.

The cherry on top is the fact that it's also one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all-time!

With its refreshing storyline, wonderful performances, and a groundbreaking music album, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a film that is made for repeat viewings, given the amount of comfort and joy it brings along.

Time certainly flies and it's been a decade since the release of YJHD, so let's look at the main cast of the movie and see how far they have come:

Deepika Padukone as Naina Talwar

2013 was undoubtedly Deepika Padukone's year. With movies like Chennai Express, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, and, of course, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, she really cemented her position as the queen of Bollywood. Deepika has since delivered strong performances in films like Piku, Tamasha, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, and Chhapaak, while also making her Hollywood debut with XXX: Return of Xander Cage.

Most recently, Deepika has been a jury member at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and has presented at the 2023 Oscars. She played Rubina Mohsin in Pathaan — the second-highest grossing Hindi film of all-time — and will soon be seen in a cameo appearance in Shah Rukh Khan and Atlee's Jawan.

Ranbir Kapoor as Kabir "Bunny" Thapar

While Ranbir has earned his superstar status by virtue of inestimable talent, he has had many ups and downs at the box office since Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. We saw him in Besharam, Roy, and Bombay Velvet, all of which failed to win hearts, but he won us over with his performances in Tamasha, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Jagga Jasoos. In 2018, he re-established his stardom with Sanju, which turned out to be one of the highest-earning Indian films of all-time.

Apart from being in the news because of his wedding and the birth of his daughter, Ranbir was most recently a part of Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva — the highest-grossing film of 2022 — and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. We will soon see him in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal.

Aditya Roy Kapur as Avinash "Avi" Shiv Arora

Aditya has strangely not been a part of many films after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. While he continues to be our true "national crush" owing to the fact that he gets better-looking with every passing year, he's starred in movies like Daawat-e-Ishq, Fitoor, Ok Jaanu, and Kalank, all of which unfortunately failed to make a mark at the box office. While Malang was a commercial success, Ludo earned him critical acclaim and so did his most recent appearance as Shaan Sengupta in The Night Manager.

Kalki Koechlin as Aditi "Adi" Mehra Khanna

Since YJHD, Kalki Koechlin has delivered her career-best performance in Margarita with a Straw, which won her many awards, and has also been a part of critically acclaimed films like Waiting and A Death in the Gunj. In 2019, she appeared in a brief but important role in Gully Boy and made her Tamil film debut with Nerkonda Paarvai. In addition to these, we've seen her in successful web shows like Made In Heaven and Sacred Games. She released her debut novel titled The Elephant In The Womb in 2021.

Kunaal Roy Kapur as Taran Khanna

Post Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Kunaal has essayed roles in a plethora of films, including Action Jackson, Kaalakaandi, Love per Square Foot, Footfairy, Tribhanga and, most recently, Radhe Shyam. He has also been a part of web shows like TVF Tripling and Bandish Bandits.

Rana Daggubatti as Vikram Jaiswal (cameo appearance)

While we loved him in his special appearance as Vikram, Rana really rose to fame with his portrayal of the antagonist in the blockbuster movie Baahubali: The Beginning and its sequel Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. He has also been a part of several Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi films like Ghazi, Nene Raju Nene Mantri, Housefull 4, Kaadan, and 1945. Moreover, he has served as the host for Bigg Boss 1 (Telugu). Not many people know that Rana is also a successful dubbing artist and has dubbed for the character of Thanos in the Telugu version of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Most recently, we've seen him essaying the titular character in Netflix's Rana Naidu.

Madhuri Dixit in a special appearance as Mohini in the song "Ghagra"

A bonafide superstar and a living legend, Madhuri Dixit's cameo appearance greatly contributed to the success of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani because "Ghagra" was more than a pleasant surprise. The song essentially marked Madhuri's comeback in Bollywood for she went on to star in movies like Dedh Ishqiya, Gulaab Gang, Total Dhamaal, and Kalank. While these films didn't garner the biggest numbers, she was a treat to watch. Madhuri also appeared as a judge on dance reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, So You Think You Can Dance, and Dance Deewane. 

She was most recently seen in The Fame Game, a web series on Netflix and in the Amazon Prime Video film titled Maja Ma.

Evelyn Sharma as Lara Khanna

Since Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Evelyn has appeared in films like Yaariyan, Main Tera Hero, Jab Harry Met Sejal, Kissebaaz, and Saaho. She now lives in Australia with her husband and daughter and is the host of the podcast #LoveMatters.

Poorna Jagannathan as Riana Sarai

Since her brief appearance in YJHD, Poorna has made quite an impact in Hollywood with roles in popular television shows like House Of Cards, The Night Of, The Blacklist, Better Call Saul, Big Little Lies, and Defending Jacob. She was also a part of films such as The Circle and Mile 22. Most recently, we've loved her as Dr. Nalini Vishwakumar in the Netflix show Never Have I Ever.

Ayan Mukerji as...the director!

After soaking in the success of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Ayan came out with the much-awaited Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan, in 2022. He is currently developing two sequels for this fantasy film and has also reportedly been roped in to direct War 2, which is a part of the YRF Spy Universe.

Apart from being the director of YJHD, Ayan was also very much a part of the cast and only those with eagle eyes would have spotted his cameo in the film. We can see him sitting beside Bunny while he sings "Kabhi kabhie mere dil mein" during Aditi's wedding celebrations.
