I just graduated University in June (it's almost going to be a year in four months) and I haven't found a job yet. I've been trying to keep myself busy so I don't go crazy. Here is what I have been doing to keep myself preoccupied.
1. Part-Time Job
I have been lucky enough to have a part-time job. Although I'm only there three days a week, it still gives me something to do and is something that keeps me distracted from the fact that I still, after eight months, have not been working in my field.
2. Find a Hobby
Anything can be a hobby, really. Whether it's puzzles, reading, sewing, martial arts, cooking. The list goes on. My hobby has been working out. A big part of my day is going to the gym. I find that I can release my anger of not being wanted in my field and it keeps me in shape. So hell ya!
3. Volunteer
Volunteer somewhere. It doesn't have to be in your field (although it certainly does help build your resume) but just do something. Volunteer at a dog shelter, food shelter, day care. I don't care. Just pick a place and go. I happened to find a volunteer position in the field I graduated from, so it's been keeping me busy. Now, if only I could get job out of it. *cross fingers*
4. Netflix
My saving grace. Need I say more?
5. Job Searching
Good ol' fashion applying to jobs. It's seriously a job in its self. An awful, miserable job.
6. Around Town
Get into a routine where every day of the week you have somewhere to go. Make yourself feel useful. Don't sleep in everyday. That way when you do get a job, you'll be familiar with waking up early and being somewhere everyday. What I do is: Monday is library day, Tuesdays I go swimming, Wednesdays I run my errands for the week, Thursdays I volunteer, and Fridays, well I consider that the weekend. But you catch my drift.
Don't get into the habit of sitting on your ass all day. Not only is that unhealthy, but it will also make you hate getting into a routine when your lucky day of getting hired begins.
