Slipknot Have The #1 Album In The Country

Proving once more that rock isn't dead.

Slipknot have just scored their second consecutive #1 album, and they totally deserve it.

The first was 2008's All Hope Is Gone, their last with bassist Paul Gray and drummer Joey Jordison.

Gray tragically passed away from an overdose in 2010, and you can feel the impact it had on the remaining members throughout .5: The Gray Chapter.

Many of the lyrics speak to Paul and the impact he has had on his bandmates in life and death. The amount of emotion contained on this album lyrically and musically is enough to propel it to #1 status. It is one of their greatest achievements in their storied career.

The band acknowledged the success and overwhelming support by thanking their fans on Facebook earlier today.

It is also living proof that the rock genre, and all of its subsidiaries, are still alive and kicking.

Back in September, KISS frontman Gene Simmon's declared rock and metal "dead," claiming that the digital age and file sharing had "murdered" the genre. He even went so far as to say any aspiring rock musician should just give up.

and have already proved him wrong, whether it was intentional or not.

The record, and the support it has received, makes a statement. It is not just an ode to a fallen comrade, but it proves that artists everywhere, no matter the genre, can still speak to wide audiences when they are emotionally driven.
