Sex and the City just celebrated its 20th anniversary (which, OMG, we're all very old). To mark the occasion, some of the creators behind the show gave an in-depth interview to Vanity Fair.
The article is super interesting, and any fan of the show should read it! But I did learn *one* fact from it that I desperately wish I could forget...
As the show's title would imply, Sex and the City had a lot of sex scenes in it. Heck, some of them got pretty crazy! But apparently, the show once shot a sex scene SO VILE that HBO refused to air it. Brace yourselves...
The scene was at the end of the Season 1's "The Monogamists." In the episode, Charlotte's boyfriend keeps demanding blow jobs from her, and she's growing increasingly aggravated.
Oh, and this man ALSO happens to have a golden retriever.
"In the final scene, she basically let him have it about being offended by his insistence on just wanting a blow job," explains the show's creator, Darren Starr. "She accused him of only liking her for that and kind of stormed out."
"And then she walked back in and saw that his golden retriever was going down on him."
“It’s sort of horrifying that we shot that. We shot him putting peanut butter on his penis, and Charlotte walks back in like, ‘Oh, I’m being unreasonable,’ and then she sees that," added writer Amy B. Harris.
"I can’t believe we even thought about doing it.”
Needless to say, HBO rejected the scene — even though it had already been shot and edited. There's a fine line, people!!!
