Ariel Winter Cut The Tip Of Her Finger Off, Accidentally Threw It Away, And Is Now Sharing The WTF Story With The World

"I didn't know the tip of my finger was in this little plastic bag."

Ariel Winter just suffered a gruesome knife injury while cooking — and the story is the most WTF thing I have heard in quite some time.

In an interview with Access, the Modern Family star revealed her injured thumb and explained that she accidentally sliced the tip of it off while trying to cut a tomato.

"My boyfriend and I were looking at my thumb as I sliced [it off]," she said. "We were talking. And then...it sliced right through."

"I was so shocked...hyperventilating. I was like, 'I should be crying, but I can't believe it. I can't believe It.'"

Ariel explained that she sliced through an artery, so the bleeding was intense. She and her boyfriend rushed to the hospital — but not before he grabbed her severed thumb off the kitchen counter and put it in a plastic bag.

"He actually brought my tip of my finger to the hospital," she said. "He grabbed the tip of my thumb, went to the hospital, and he gave it to the nurse."

And believe it or not, the story only gets worse from there. Ariel didn't realize her thumb was inside that plastic bag...so when the nurse handed it to her, she tossed it in the garbage.

"She actually just gave it to me in a plastic bag and didn't, like, tell me it was the tip of my thumb. So I accidentally threw it away," she said.

"I mean, like, I didn't know the tip of my finger was in this little plastic bag, and uh, we threw it away in triage because I was bleeding on it. And then we had to go back and be like, '[The finger's] in that little plastic bag in the trash.'"

But Ariel assured everyone that she's doing fine now:

I'm fine. It's the top of my thumb. It definitely hurt, and wasn't fun, and was a good portion of [the finger]. But at the same time, they took great care of me.

"Like, I sliced my thumb off, and it's sad — well, the top of my thumb," she said. "I will have just a mildly sad-looking thumb. So it'll be okay."

And Ariel said she finds the whole story funny now:

It's funny now. It's definitely very funny now.

You can watch Ariel tell the full story below, but beware: It's not for the faint of heart:
