Using Chemicals in Electronics
Many people often wonder how chemicals are used to develop modern electronics. Well, different types of compounds are used when developing different types of electronics. The following are some of the areas of application:
1. Making Integrated Circuits
IC's are perhaps the most important components in modern electronics. They are made in a step by step process that involves use of chemicals. Photolithography is one of the many processes that silicon wafers must go through when an IC is being made. Photoresist chemical is used during this process. The chemical is composed of:
- Poly(methyl glutarimide)
- Phenol formaldehyde resin
- Poly(methyl methacrylate)
2. Making Electrolytic Capacitors
Almost every electrical device has a capacitor. Electrolytic capacitors usually have a chemical that acts as the dielectric. This electrolyte is a mixture of boric acid and ethylene glycol.
3. Sterilization
Most electronic components are usually created in under conditions. Chemicals are normally used for cleaning and sterilization.
4. Removal of Impurities
Before metals are used to make any component, metal oxides and other impurities must be removed. Usually, chemicals are used to dissolve any impurities.
There are many different types of chemicals that can be used to develop modern electronics. Manufacturers often have numerous alternatives.
