People Are Sharing Their Harrowing Experiences With Body Shaming On Twitter

"As a chubby kid, I was sitting on the floor and someone compared the sight to folding a Dunlop mattress. I was 12."

Earlier today, Mumbai-based poet Harnidh Kaur had to face random comments from a stranger body-shaming her.

As a response, she tweeted asking people to share their experiences of being body-shamed.

Soon enough, people started replying to Kaur with similar instances of their own.

Some spoke about how medical conditions have caused their weight to fluctuate, opening them up to body-shamers.

Women weren't the only ones coming forward with their stories.

"Body shaming for men is a lot more insidious because we assume body standards exist for only women. Men are height-shamed, skinny-shamed, shamed for their facial hair or the lack thereof, for weight issues," Kaur told BuzzFeed.

Some users decided to tell their stories through pictures.

While others shared how they block out the haters.

"Especially in India, body-shaming is akin to familial bonding. So that just cheeses me off," she added.
