Today's stunning Google doodle honours Rukmini Devi Arundale, one of India’s pioneers in classical dance from the 1930s and founder of its largest art institution, Kalakshetra.
She was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1956 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 1967.
She was an active animals rights and welfare activist in her time, and was instrumental in founding the Animal Welfare Board of India.
