The 44th Europa League Cup Final Will Be Fought Out Between Sevilla v FC Dnipro: FC Who?

I regard myself as a keen football fan and support one of the top teams in the Premier League, but I am admittedly a big fan of how the game is played on the continent, particularly in the Spanish La Liga. With the Premier League season (2014 – 2015) at an end, I was curious what games were being played around the world. While reading a football blog I found out that the 44th Europa League final shall be played this evening, but when I found out which teams shall be playing I was surprised to say the least. The Europa League final this year will be fought between Sevllia FC, who play in La Liga in Spain, and FC Dnipropetrovsk. If you are anything like me, you will be asking FC who? Apparently, FC Dnipro, as they are known, are a professional football club which were founded nearly 100 years ago (in 1918), and are nicknamed the ‘warriors of light’. The name Dnipro is the name of the biggest river in Ukraine. The team plays in Dnipro-Arena, Dnipropetrovsk in the Ukranian Premier League and are based in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine. The club experienced some success prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union, and following this they joined the newly formed Ukranian Premier League and reached the Ukranian Cup finals in 1995, 1997 and 2004, losing on each and every occasion to Shakhtar Donetsk. Now Shakhtar Donetsk is a team I had heard of before, but not Dnipro. How about you? Anyway, if you are interested in watching the 44th Europa League final it shall be played this evening in Stadion Narodowy, Warsaw, Poland at 20:45 (local time). There is a lot to play for as the winners are guaranteed a place in the 2015 – 2016 UEFA Champions League group stage. Sevilla are currently the holders of the Cup and will be trying to win the Cup for a record fourth time, while the Ukranian side, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, shall be trying to win their first major European trophy. Given the domestic performances of both teams, winning the Europa League Cup is the only guaranteed route to a place in the UEFA Champions League next season. Team News Ahead of the Match Sevilla Sevilla’s centre-back Nicolás Pareja shall not be available and isn’t expected back until October due to a ruptured cruciate ligament. Dnipro Dnipro defender Ondřej Mazuch shall not play as a result of a knee injury. If Dnipro do win the game and are given a place in the Champions League group stage next season, please do not say that you have never heard of FC Dnipro.
