    Meet New Artist: Sam Hunt

Rising artist Sam Hunt stretches the definition of country music further than anyone in Nashville on his new album titled "Montevallo."

Hunt is not your typical country star. At 6'4, this former University of Alabama at Birmingham quarterback and free agent for the Kansas City Chiefs is changing country music completely.

If you don't recognize Sam Hunt, you probably recognize the songs he's written for multiple artists. He wrote Kenny Chesney's "Come Over," Billy Currington's "We Are Tonight" and Keith Urban's "Cop Car." Sam's single, "Leave The Night On" surpassed 500,000 track sales making it Hunt's first certified Gold record as an artist. His debut album, Montevallo, dropped recently. With what seems like a quick rise to fame, there's still so much more to know about Sam Hunt.

Hunt grew up in rural Cedartown, Georgia. An athlete all his life, Hunt wound up playing football through college, ending his time as a starting quarterback at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Somewhere during his time at UAB, he picked up a guitar, and while learning the songs of such great singer-songwriters as Townes Van Zandt and John Prine, Hunt began putting basic chords together and writing tunes of his own.

At first glance, Sam Hunt might seem like a fairly typical young country singer, but feeling his attachment to music grow deeper and deeper; he came to Nashville with little idea of how the music business worked, but with big dreams.

A closer look instantly reveals that there is nothing typical about the music that Hunt makes, or about the way he has introduced his work to the world. In a short time and on his own terms, he has become one of Nashville's most anticipated new artists, and his debut album, Montevallo, delivers.

His college days helped influence his music career in more ways than one. As for the album's title, Montevallo is the name of a small Alabama town where Hunt often visited these past few years, to visit friends and escape from the pressures of starting a new career in Nashville. He also points out, however, that the word means "mountains and valleys" in Spanish.

Listening to his album, Sam Hunt has a remarkable set of songs, which demonstrates that you don't have to be who everyone else wants you to be, creativity knows no limits.
