A Conservative MP was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of rape and has since been released on bail.
Mark Pritchard, MP for The Wrekin in Shropshire, voluntarily handed himself into a central London police station on Tuesday evening, according to a letter by the Metropolitan police.
The police force sent the letter to the Speaker's Office informing it that the 48-year-old MP was arrested at Holborn station.
The news emerged after the office made the news public in a parliamentary document on Wednesday.
The full statement from the Met is below:
We can confirm that a 48-year-old man voluntarily attended a north London police station on Tuesday 2 December where he was arrested following an allegation of rape in central London.
He has been bailed to a date in early January 2015 pending further enquiries.
A Conservative spokesman said: "This is a police matter. It would be inappropriate to comment while an investigation is taking place."
