10. The man who spoke fluent Mandarin after coma

Ben McMahon of Melbourne, Australia, woke up from a week's coma speaking in fluent Mandarin to a Chinese nurse. He had taken classes in high school and had spent some time in Shangai but he was no expert in the language until after his coma.

Doctors believe that his language inversion is because of the accident that damaged the brain circuitry associated with speaking English, while engaging the network linked to speaking Mandarin.

But, no one knows for sure.

9. The case of the rotating heart

A 48-year-old man’s heart rotated 90 degrees to the right within his body, an hour after surviving a motorcycle crash. While it happened, the man was alert and awake.

His doctors think that the rotation most likely occurred due to air released by a punctured lung into the chest cavity. After draining the air they were able to turn his heart around. And surprisingly, it was uninjured. Now, that's a heart that knows how to roll!

Julie Redfern from Lancashire suddenly found herself hearing squeaky noises when she was playing a computer game. She then realized she heard it when she moved her eyes. She could hear her eyes move. She later found that she could hear blood in her veins. She missed dinner table conversation because her own chewing was too loud for her.

Julie was diagnosed with SCDS (superior canal dehiscence syndrome), a rare condition

that causes the bones in the inner ear to lose density, resulting in very sensitive hearing. After a pioneer surgery one of her ears was successfully restored normal, giving hope for the other.

7. No pain, No.....?

Gabby Gingras, suffers from a rare medical condition called sensory autonomic neuropathy, a genetic disease. It causes her to feel no pain. While this may initially sound nice, it is actually life-threatening. Gabby's parents live in fear everyday. Once, they didn't notice that she had a broken jaw for a month because she did not feel it.

Gabby wears a helmet and protective eye glasses to keep her safe. She now lives a relatively normal life but has to keep to her limits.

6. Ne-Yo induced seizures

26 year old Zoe Fennessy is cursed never to hear another Ne-Yo song. Good or bad? We're not judging.

Zoe has a seizure that causes severe nausea when she hears a Ne-Yo song. She has to wear earphones whenever she steps out in order to not hear anything by accident. Her first music induced seizure was on new year of 2006 when she heard "Give Me Everything" by Pitbull ft. Ne-Yo.

Zoe says that she does not dislike the pop star or his music despite the pain it has caused her.

5. The boy who lost his appetite completely

After going through a lung infection, 12 year old Landon Jones, lost his appetite completely. He feels neither hunger nor thirst. He has been taken to medical experts in five different cities in the following year with no success. The doctors are stumped and believe that he is the only person with this condition.

Now, Landon has to be constantly reminded to eat and drink. Doctors are working on finding if he has a dysfunctional hypothalamus which is supposed to control hunger and thirst. But, at this stage, the causes for his condition remain unclear.

4. Stone tears

8 year-old girl Saadia from Yemen, started crying tiny stones instead of tears. The locals in the village think she is under some spell. She also cries normal tears at some times. The stones appear late afternoons and nights. Although she cries out up to 100 stones some days, she is no pain.

All the doctors she has visited have been unable to come up with a diagnosis or treat her in anyway. They have found nothing out of the ordinary about her eyes....well, other than the fact that she cries stones!

3. Just a missing piece..... of the brain!

At the age of 24 a women admitted to a hospital in China due to dizziness and nausea, found out that she has only half a brain. She reported that she could only stand on her own at age 4 and speak at age 6. She had always suffered balance problems.

Despite it all, she is married, has a daughter and has functioned normally for years. The only problem was that the scans revealed that her entire cerebellum was missing.

2. The boy who can't open his mouth

Lockjaw in the newborn baby, Little Wyatt, perplexed doctors. The baby couldn't open his mouth to cry when he was born. After examining him for nearly three months, doctors found no reason for this condition. In the following months, Wyatt nearly lost his life on six occasions due to choking and the inability to gulp air through his closed mouth.

Medical experts tried using Botox to relax his jaw but to little use. He now eats via a feeding tube inserted directly into his stomach. Tests are still ongoing and are the only hope for his parents.
