Over 2,000 Women Got Together In India To Make The World's Largest Crochet Blanket

And the entire thing is going to be donated to the needy.

On January 31, a group called Mother India's Crochet Queens broke the Guinness World Record for the largest crochet blanket ever made.

Over 2,000 women from around India and 13 other countries gathered in Chennai and wove a blanket with the staggering area of 11,148.5 square meters.

Chennai resident Subashri Natarajan, the leader of the group, said the initial plan was to stitch 5,000 blankets together, but they far exceeded their target, going up to over 8,000 blankets.

The participants – who range from ages 8 to 85 and represent a wide array of backgrounds – have been hard at work since August 2015.

Having destroyed the previous world record, which stood at 3,377 m², Natarajan says that the blanket will be taken apart and donated to the needy.

    Power to the people.
