Can You Pass This Test With Flying Colors? Test Your SAFE Sex Knowledge!

You must get consent before every new sexual activity. If you aren't sure if your partner(s) is 100% on board, just ask them again! "Are you sure? I wouldn't want to do something that would make you uncomfortable." Checking in with your partner will show them that their opinion/feelings matter. Sex is about making sure that those involved are feeling pleasured, and comfortable!

Consent should be a clear, enthusiastic and confident affirmation. Also, consent can be taken back! If someone says yes, but then decides they dont want to anymore, they are under NO obligation to continue.

What is an example of consent?

The age of consent varies around the world and around the country. Look up your state/country to find out if you dont know! As for the unequal power dynamic, this includes employer & employee; teacher & student; therapist & patient etc.

Consent cannot be given in any of the 3 scenarios mentioned above!

When CAN'T consent be given--(Even with a verbal "Yes")?

There are barrier methods (Condoms), and hormonal methods (IUD & Birth Control Pills). The Copper IUD acts as a spermicide, and creates an uninhabitable environment for sperm, and can also prevent a fertilized egg from implanting on the uterine lining. Unfortunately, Hormonal Birth control methods and the Copper IUD, do not protect against STI's. Use condoms and other barrier methods to help prevent STI transmission!

Testing your Contraceptive Knowledge!

Flavored condoms can cause irritation and yeast infections, because of the flavoring ingredients used in them.

Flavored condoms should ONLY be used for oral sex.

You can use flavored condoms for vaginal/anal sex.

Oil-Based lubricants can cause latex condoms to deteriorate and break. Always opt for a water or silicone based lube!

When using lube, always use water-based or silicone-based lubricant.

They can be cured with antibiotics! So make sure to keep getting tested ever 6 months or so ;)

Bacterial STI's such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Syphilis can be cured.

HIV, HPV, Hepatitis B, Herpes.  
Dont shame people with STI's. Even though Viral STI's can't be cured, there are vaccines that help protect against some of them AND there are new treatments being invented EVERYDAY! People with viral STI's can live a long and healthy life and they dont need to be shamed.
