What Was Chris Christie REALLY Saying During An Interview

Facial expressions can reveal more than what they say.

I loved watching the Fox TV show "Lie to Me" that featured Tim Roth as Dr. Cal Lightman. His team used the Facial Action Coding System (F.A.C.E) and body language to gauge the truthfullness of people they were investigating. It only lasted 3 episodes but for me it was must see TV.

There is a "subsection" of F.A.C.E that deals with Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and eye movement and placement while we're trying to think about or recall information. Below is a simple chart that is used to associate eye position and the area of the brain that is being accessed for a right handed person.

So when I was flipping channels and saw Chris Christie on FOX News (don't judge me) being interviewed by Sean Hannity, I was slightly curious. Normally with interviews there is a script that is followed or your answers are already performed to fit your agenda. That way you really don't have to think about your answer responding to a question. You know it, you've practiced it, you spit it out, and you move on. There really isn't any full body language movements to measure as well because all you're normally seeing are head shots. The only thing that is left is the eyes, the preverbal "Window to the Soul". Most of the time during interviews ones eyes are always focused on the the host with glances to engage your surroundings. Just to be clear, F.A.C.E and NLP is not an exact science but can help in determining truthful or misleading statements. Police, FBI, and other law enforcement agencies use it all of the time during investigations.

Close to the end of the interview, Christie was presented with rapid fire questions about his competition and companions in the Republican race. Ahh….this could be interesting to watch. Questions that forces one to engage the brain a little deeper to answer questions. Let us watch.

There appears to be a shift in the side of his brain he's accessing when talking about Republican and Democratic competitors. When talking about his feeling about Republican counterparts, it appears that he's eyes are going to the left side of his head. When talking about about his Democratic counterparts, his eyes shift to the right side of his head.

All it all, it was interesting to watch but if I was a betting man, Ran Paul is the only left-handed person in the race.
