You would think you wouldn’t hear these things in nursing school…but here it is. My Missisippi-born white teacher elected to teach about hypertension. There are only4black females in the class of about 20. She points out that Blacks have only been in the country for 400 years and we are still not used to salt, therefore we have hypertension. She paused waiting for comments from the black folks. We just stared at her. Absolute silence. From everyone. So, she repeats it3more times, waiting for us to condone what she is saying. Birds are chirping. More silence. So she gave up.
