    Bedbug Prevention for Travellers

If you're planning to travel during the holidays this year you might bring home more than grandma's hand-knitted sweater...Bedbugs can be brought into the home unawares but if you are diligent upon your return there is a very good chance to prevent an infestation. When arriving home unpack your belongings on a light colored sheet of linen or plastic. Shake out all your belongings plus your luggage over the sheet. If you have brought home any bedbugs they should show up on the sheet. Pack your clothing into a plastic bag and transfer to the washing machine and wash in hot water (even the items not worn) then dry on hi heat. Any bedbugs still undiscovered will be killed in the wash and dry cycle. If there are bedbugs in your luggage vacuum first use a steam cleaner to purge any bedbugs hiding in the cracks and crevices. Empty the vacuum contents outside into a plastic bag and dispose of quickly. Happy (& Safe) Travels!
