As a Kindergarten teacher, I have a heightened awareness of the basic manners that are intended to be instilled in each member of society. As a music teacher's daughter, I have a heightened awareness that every single thing that is said, thought, or done can be turned into a song (Thanks, Diann Puryear).
The lyrics to this song were inspired by drivers on my 45 minute commute home gesturing less than polite signs towards one another while cutting each other off to get wherever it might be that they were going in such an immediate rush. Also inspired by the people that I walk by on the boardwalk who are so intently consumed by the images on their phone to not be able to respond to a "hello." (As you will see referenced in the line "I feel like I am losing a game of Marco Polo...Hello? Hello?Hello?")
I am hoping that with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season among us, this can inspire people to remember the basic manners that you learn all the way back in Kindergarten. Try to "catch" people using these basic manners and snap a picture (with permission and politeness, of course!). Upload those pictures to your social media with the hashtag #bringingmannersback. Let's try to have less "Black Friday Massacre" headlines and more "Bringing Manners Back" headlines.
PLEASE enjoy and THANK YOU for watching!
