Star Wars The Force Awakens Fan Theory About Rey's Purpose: Hear Me Out

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!!! You've been warned...

Here is my personal fan theory about why Rey is the REAL Chosen One, the one who will unite the Light and Dark sides of the Force. It's a bit long, so bear with me.

Everything below contains MAJOR spoilers for all of the Star Wars movies, especially Episode VII The Force Awakens!

The Theory: Rey is Luke Skywalker's daughter, and thus the REAL Chosen One, who will unite the Light and Dark Sides of the Force, by successfully bringing her cousin Kylo Ren from the Dark Side to the Light, in order to finally vanquish evil in the galaxy

We know from the beginning of The Force Awakens, that "Without Jedi, there can be no balance in the Force," which Lor San Tekka tells Poe.

So, let's unload this: let's assume that Rey is Luke Skywalker's daughter, and he hid her on Jakku so Kylo Ren couldn't destroy her, as Luke was hidden from Vader. We can then assume that while others thought her father and grandfather were the true Chosen Ones, it is actually Rey. Yes, Anakin and Luke had great Jedi powers, but they sought out their adventures, and needed to be trained. Rey, on the other hand, seems to be beckoned by the Force--she is completely "ruled" by the Light, a true Jedi, in all aspects of her being. Here are the arguments:

The Original Chosen One: Anakin Skywalker

Ok, so while we can all agree that Episodes I-III were not the best, they did have some solid plot lines. For example, Anakin Skywalker was supposed to be the "Chosen One," the prophesied Jedi who would bring balance back to the Force by destroying the Sith. He is trained by Obi Wan Kenobi and Qui Gon Jinn, who foresaw that the Force would be strong with Anakin.

Young Obi Wan Kenobi is betrayed by Anakin, who succumbs to the Dark Side of the Force to join the Sith and become Darth Vader, choosing the desire for ultimate power over defeating evil.

Anakin/Vader's son, Luke Skywalker, becomes the next plausible option for the Chosen One

Luke, hidden away on Tatooine, meets Obi Wan, who begins to instruct Luke in the ways of the Jedi. His training is later taken over by Yoda, who initially didn't want to train Luke because he was "too old" and "reckless." Yoda told Obi Wan, "I cannot teach him, the boy has no patience." Obi Wan insisted, to which Yoda replies, "much anger in him...like his father."

Despite this, Luke trains with Yoda, and becomes masterful in the ways of the Jedi.

When he leaves Yoda to save Han and Leia and fight Vader, he learns the truth: Vader, his enemy, is his father. Vader attempts to convince his son to fall to the Dark Side as well: "Join me, and I will complete your training," he says. Later, Luke eventually learns from Obi Wan how Anakin was seduced by the Dark Side, and became Darth Vader. Obi Wan warns Luke that he cannot let his emotions become controlled by anger and hatred, so that he can remain Light and defeat Vader to bring peace to the galaxy.

Luke, however, plans to bring his father back to the Light Side of the Force rather than killing him, which would complete the task of the Chosen One of bringing balance to the Force, through the redemption of Darth Vader.

Luke feels that there is still good in his father, and in Return of the Jedi, he meets with Vader, begging him to return to the Light: "Your thoughts betray you, father. I feel the good in you, the conflict." They fight, and just as Emperor Palpatine is about to vanquish Luke with his creepy lighting hands, Vader screams "NO!" and throws Palpatine down a shaft in the new Death Star. This fight drains Vader of his energy, and Luke understands that the act of Vader killing his master and saving his son's life has completed Luke's own task of bringing his father back to the Light Side: only, its too late. Vader dies, and as Luke takes his father's helmet off, he tells his son "you were right about me," that he could be saved from the Dark Side.

Cut to Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Luke has been training a new class of Jedi, when one of his own, his nephew Ben Solo, decides he wants to join the Dark Side, and kills the other Jedi Luke has been training, becoming Kylo Ren.

We meet Rey, a seemingly orphaned scavenger on Jakku.

Throughout the movie, Rey insists that her family will return to retrieve her, and that while she will help return BB-8 to the Resistance, she wants to return to Jakku to wait for her family; the Force, however, has a different plan for her. In Maz Kanata's palace/cantina, she finds Luke Skywalker's old light saber. Maz tells Rey that the saber had been calling to her, and that her belonging is ahead of her, not behind her. When she touched the light saber, she had intense visions: of Luke mourning the Jedi Massacre with R2-D2, Kylo Ren and his Knights of Ren, she hears Luke screaming "Nooo!" from the moment he learned Vader was his father, she sees herself being orphaned on Jakku, and finally, she hears Obi Wan saying, "Rey...these are your first steps."

Why does it matter that Obi Wan is telling Rey about "her first steps?" Well, because since the beginning, Obi Wan has been slightly obsessed with the idea of the Chosen One bringing balance to the Force.

He "failed" with Anakin, and Luke was basically too late. Both of his apprentices had some temper and patience issues, and needed to be trained sufficiently before really gaining strength with the Force. Rey, on the other hand, doesn't need training: BECAUSE SHE'S THE ACTUAL CHOSEN ONE. Obi Wan was somewhat right, believing that Anakin then Luke were the Chosen Ones, but just a few generations too early. So, touching the light saber, meeting Kylo Ren (her cousin), and eventually embarking on the journey to meet (and hopefully train with!!) her father, Luke, are her first steps to fulfilling the task as The Chosen One!

First of all, Kylo Ren would never be able to vanquish the Jedi: Rey is much more powerful than Kylo Ren could ever be, because her father is Luke Skywalker, a much more powerful Jedi than Ren's mother, Leia.

Luke was always wayyyy more powerful than Leia (honestly, the only times Leia seems to use the Force is how she can "feel" other people's forces, so to speak--she feels that Luke wasn't on the Death Star in Episode VI when it explodes, and she feels that SPOILER Han has died, and she honestly probably can feel that it was SPOILER her son that did it). She never uses her abilities to their full potential, so while she can pass them on to her son, they're not as strong as the abilities Luke would be able to pass on.

On the other hand, Luke is essentially the greatest Jedi, yes he needed intense training, but he is the direct descendent of Vader, so the Force is very strong with him, and if Rey is his daughter, then she would come from a direct line of great Jedis. This is why the Force seems to call to her, and why she can get into Kylo Ren's head WITHOUT ANY TRAINING--also, this tidbit really supports the theory, as Obi Wan had originally told Luke it's easy to manipulate the minds of the weak, suggesting that even with his training from Luke and Snoke, Ren is weaker than Rey, because she is THE CHOSEN ONE and the Force is just ingrained in her being...is it starting to come together now?

Ok, second part: Kylo Ren would never be able to become completely Dark, as it is not in his lineage. He is the key to Rey's task as the Chosen One--Rey will give balance to the Force by uniting Light and Dark, through the COMPLETED redemption of Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren thinks he is the "new" Vader: he renounces his Jedi training by his uncle, Luke, to join the Dark Side. Like an obsessed cult follower, he hears the stories of his grandfather, Darth Vader, the most powerful Sith lord the galaxy has seen, and he wants to follow in his footsteps.

But Kylo Ren never actually knew that Darth Vader wasn't completely Dark: Luke was able to bring his father back to the Light side, even if it was too late to accomplish the task of balancing the force, given that Vader was dying as the transition happens. So, Kylo Ren doesn't understand the full story about his grandfather, which is his flaw: he is trying to become completely Dark, but that is not actually in his blood. True, he is good at succumbing to his anger, impatience, and temper, as shown by his spectacular tantrums, which might help him fall deeper into the Dark Side, but he is still more Light than Dark at his core.

This allows for Rey to bring Kylo Ren back to the Light Side, successfully bringing back a Jedi lured by the Dark, thus completing her task as Chosen One of restoring balance to the Force that had been lost to the Dark Side.

As mentioned before, "Without Jedi, there can be no balance in the Force." Rey, the Chosen One, must stop Kylo Ren from destroying the Jedi, by bringing him back to the Light.

Anakin could never be the true Chosen One, he had too much anger in him.

Luke could never be the true Chosen One, he had too much recklessness in him (which made him too late to save Vader).

But Rey, Rey is the TRUE Chosen One, because she has never felt a pull toward the Dark. There is no conflict, to steal a line from her grandfather. She is not too reckless, as she has been diligent in her purpose on Jakku, waiting for her family, patiently, not angry that they had abandoned her, but disciplined, accepting, and calm. As Maz says to her, "The Light--it's always been there. It'll guide you." She is pure Light, a true Jedi, and thus the only one who can and will bring balance to the Force.
