Correction: Victoria Woodhull was nominated in 1872 for President by the Equal Rights Party, and nominated Frederick Douglas as Vice President. Woodhull was ineligible to be president on Inauguration Day because she would not reach the age of 35 until September 23, 1873.
In '72, Shirley Chisholm was the the First Woman to for the Democratic Nominee for President (Second Woman to run for Presidential Nominee, Margaret Chase Smith ran for the Republican side in '64). She was the first African American to run for Presidential Nominee.
