The Arlington, Columbia Heights, Tenleytown, and Southwest locations are giving out burgers to all furloughed employees during lunch (11-1 p.m.) and dinner (5-7 p.m.) with a proper ID for the length of the shutdown.

Chef Jose Andres is offering free sandwiches to all furloughed government employees (with an ID) for the duration of the shutdown. The offer applies to the Chinatown, Crystal City, and Bethesda locations as well as his other Chinatown restaurants, Oyamel and Zaytinya.

Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe

Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe is extending their happy hour ($5 beers, house wines, and rail drinks) until closing for the duration of the shutdown. As a caveat, members of Congress pay double. They still get paid during a shutdown, so they can afford it!

Beltway Plaza Mall

Until October 31, anyone affected by the furlough can bring in a notice from their employer with their name, the name of their employer, and the dates of the furlough to Academy 8 box office from 10-6 p.m. In exchange, you’ll get a free lunch, fruit, or cookie.

Art and Soul

Happy hour is extended until 8 p.m. for government employees during the shutdown. Specials include $4 regional drafts, $5 small plates, and $7 cocktails and wine. The bar will pick up the tab for your second drink.

MANY other places in the DMV are offering furlough specials. Just ask around, and good luck during the shutdown. May the odds be ever in your favor!
