The Legend Of Kabali & “The Idiot Salesman”

How the legend of Rajnikanth is taking over the box-office and a small group of people are building the Indian Middle Class dream, albeit in an funny & idiotic way!

The Rajnikanth Stardom & Mr. Rangeen Chawla's Middle Class Dream

Kabali has broken all the records and it should not come as a surprise for any of us. With the God like figure of Superstar Rajnikanth it was bound to get a massive box office. Of course it includes a lot of crores put in to promote in print medium, motion medium and the natural fan following of Rajnikanth.

While there no major releases owing to the release of Kabali, there was a web series that was launched on the same date. Although non-starry it talks about a character called Mr. Rangeen Chawla (played by Sambhaji Sasane) and his journey in Mumbai. As Kabali portrays the struggle of a rags to riches gangster who wants to protect his family and fights his way out of it. Mr. Rangeen Chawla plays a simple middle class Indian who is confused with his multiple dreams and is in pursuit of the same.

The Struggle of Mr. Rangeen Chawla can be associated with that of the life of every middle class Indian. We can recall the people who sit at a Pan-tapri & also do broking as a side business, we know of hawkers who also carry a Mobile recharge centre with them, we know of Medical representatives who do two jobs in a day. The Idiot Salesman is an apt representation of dreams that the Indian middle class carries to earn some extra pennies every month.

Mr. Rangeen Chawla goes for an Audition just to check out whether he can make something as an Actor. We might have encountered funny auditions in Indian Idol and other reality shows but the fun part is that Mr. Rangeen Chawla tries hard to please the decision maker like we do to please our bosses. He doesn't end up getting the role but he carries the dream with him, the Indian Middle class dream.
