What exactly is the Açai Berry, and why is it so popular (and delicious)?

Surely by now, you've heard of the health craze sweeping the world like hot cakes - the Brazilian Açai Berry (pronounced ah-sigh-ee).

Your local smoothie bar is bound to have Açai Smoothies, or your local cafe Açai Bowls, but you've been too scared to try it. Well... what exactly is an Açai Berry?

The Açai Berry is a small, blueberry like fruit found in the lower Amazonian River in Brazil and is known to have many great health benefits:

High in antioxidants

Boost energy levels

Support immune system

Promote good digestion

Aid in weight loss

Lower cholesterol

Promote skin health

Improve mental function

Aid in anti ageing

YES! The list goes on... and all of these are proven facts. So, surely these little superberries can't taste that nice if they're good for you! BUT THEY DO! Açai Berries are great to add to smoothies or what's called an Açai Bowl.

THE AMAZING AÇAI BOWL

I promise you that this will be the most delicious breakfast you have ever eaten - basically berry sorbet that tastes INCREDIBLE and is filling and good for you!

You will need:

1 x Frozen Banana

1 x Portion of pure frozen Açai Puree (you can by this at your local gourmet of health food store)

A splash of liquid (coconut water is my favourite, but you can use juice, milk - anything you like)

Agave Syrup or Honey

Fresh fruit (ie. strawberries, blueberries, banana), muesli/granola and dessicated coconut to top

1. Place frozen banana and portion of Açai Puree in a blender

2. Add a splash of liquid to make sure the blender doesn't stall

3. Turn on blender and wait - the consistency should be thicker than a smoothie ie. spooning texture, not too thick, not too runny

4. Add more liquid if needed

5. Pour into a bowl and top with your fresh fruit, muesli, coconut and a drizzle of Agave.

6. EAT YOUR AMAZING, FAST, DELICIOUS BREAKFAST
