Much like _Real World_, _Terrace House_ is about six attractive strangers living together in a fancy house. The difference is everyone on _Terrace House_ is exceedingly polite and the drama is relatable and restrained rather than over the top. The best part of the show is the hilarious commentary provided by famous Japanese comedians in between scenes at the house. They also cook a lot of burgers.

Every episode of _Chef's Table_ is an hour of straight-up food porn. The series features interviews about the life and craft of various world-renowned chefs, as well as close-up shots of beautiful food set to inspirational music. It's also produced by the director of _Jiro Dreams of Sushi_.

Pizza is an easy choice. You know what else is easy? The show _Easy_. Each episode features its own independent storyline set in a loosely related world, meaning you can watch them in any order. The stories themselves are realistic and relatable takes on sex and relationships, starring a bunch of famous people like Orlando Bloom and Malin Akerman. If you enjoyed _Love Actually_, you'll like _Easy_.

Easy

Even if you don't like anime, give _Knights of Sidonia_ a shot. Yes, it's a post-apocalyptic drama set on a space station (kind of like _Battlestar Galactica_) full of action and political intrigue, but the art style is gorgeous and the second season features an unlikely but endearing female protagonist. In fact, _Knights of Sidonia_ may be one of the few shows whose second season is better than its first.

_Life Unexpected_ is like the comfort food of shows. It's the story of a teenage girl in foster care who reunites with her birth parents, two childish adults living separate lives. This series fills the void left behind by shows like _Gilmore Girls_ and _Everwood_. Also, the teenage characters actually look like they're in high school.

_Lovesick_ is an adorable British comedy about a guy who is diagnosed with chlamydia and needs to inform all the women he's ever slept with. The show takes an anachronistic trip down memory lane, giving us glimpses into the developing relationships between the main character and his two best friends. It's simultaneously a bit over the top while being relatable in its portrayal of relationships.

Lovesick

_The Magicians_ is like Harry Potter fanfiction set in an alternate universe. That universe is upstate New York, where the students engage in typical college activities like drinking and hookups while learning magic and dealing with bad guys. There are a lot of fresh faces amongst the main cast and better acting than you would expect from a cable sci-fi series.

You've probably seen banners for this show all over Netflix but never actually watched it. It's a sci-fi series written by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, with an international cast of characters. Kind of like _Heroes_, except instead of special powers, the characters each possess distinct nonsupernatural skills. If you're a big fan of ensemble casts trying to save the world, you'll enjoy _Sense 8_.

_Midnight Diner_ is an anthology series based on a long-running Japanese comic and set around a small diner in Tokyo. The proprietor will make any dish his patrons request, and so each episode centers on one particular dish and the story of the people who requested it. The series is a heartwarming look at the relationships between people living in a big city.

It's _Lost_ with teenagers! In a world where the last of humanity lives on a space station, a group of juvenile delinquents are sent back down to a post-apocalyptic Earth to see if it can sustain human life. The show blends futuristic sci-fi with primitive fantasy and raises the stakes with each season. There are a lot of badass women in charge of things, including the protagonist, whose fluid sexual identity is represented without being the focus of any drama.

Salad may not be a guilty pleasure, but _Reign_ absolutely is. It's a historical-fiction series about Mary Queen of Scots moving to France in order to marry Prince King Francis II. There's romance, political intrigue, and even some mystical elements. Sure, the costumes are hilariously inaccurate and nobody even tries to have a French or Scottish accent on the show, but it's rewarding to see Mary come into her own as a ruler and her complicated relationship with her future mother-in-law, Catherine de Medici. Also, everyone is ridiculously hot.

Reign

If you like British crime dramas like _Broadchurch_ and _The Fall_, you'll like _Top of the Lake_. It stars Elizabeth Moss (Peggy!) as a detective searching for a missing girl in a small town in New Zealand. The cinematography is beautiful, which should come as no surprise since it's directed by Jane Campion, one of the only women to ever receive an Oscar nomination for Best Director.
