Ok, so let me break this down for you. You know comedian Kathy Griffin and the iconic late comic Joan Rivers.
Well, on her comedy tour, Kathy — who was BFF with Joan — spilled the tea on her beef between her, Joan, and Ellen DeGeneres.
"One of the things that really hurt Joan, and we talked about it at our last meal together, was that Ellen always shunned her and Ellen thought she was vulgar and not funny," Kathy said at her show, according to Variety.
After Joan died, Kathy reached out to Ellen about doing a tribute:
"I just called her and I just said, ‘Look, woman to woman, comic to comic, I think you need to let go of your hatred for Joan Rivers. She’s passed away, just do a fucking tribute, be cool."
She said Ellen was not having it, which set Kathy off:
"That fucking set me off. So we had a fight in which I used inflammatory words like, ‘Look you fucking untalented hack.’ … You know when you’re fighting with someone and you can kind of laugh at a point? Yeah, not that day."
But Kathy did feel bad after the fight and said she texted Ellen:
“‘It was so 'Dynasty' that I demand to be Alexis as long as you’re Krystle. ‘I think we should do a scene in the pool, I think there should be big hats.’"
"That bitch didn’t even respond!" Kathy said. "But that was a good idea!”
I'm torn on this one because I love them both so much, so I'm gonna be Switzerland and offer these thoughts, in bullet form:
* Kathy, calling Ellen a "fucking untalented hack" was not OK, and I think you know that too, aka why you apologized
* Ellen, I feel like maybe it's etiquette/would've been the right thing to do to have a tribute to Joan Rivers, who directly/indirectly had to have influenced you
* All in all, Kathy and Ellen should be supporting each other/collab on something!
