5 Anime To Save You From Finale Season

With the spring season ending, many people are likely suffering through network withdrawals after the finales of their favorite shows. In the mean time, when the hopes of new content seem all but out of reach, fear not loyal TV fans, Japan has your back. Here's 5 perfect anime to save all of us from the media doldrums.

    Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Taking place in an alternate reality, European landscape, Fullmetal Alchemist follows the quest of Edward and Alphonse Elric in search of the legendary philosophers stone. In order to achieve this goal, the Brothers utilize the science of alchemy; a process which allows users to deconstruct physical objects, analyze their elemental components, and reconstruct the matter into new forms. However, flashy plot devices aside, Fullmetal Alchemist also delves into much deeper themes, with episodes covering existential crises, scientific ethics, human experimentation, and explorations into the value of human life. With all this, and more, wrapped up in a beautifully animated package, Fullmetal Alchemist is sure to appeal to any tv fan that's hungry for more action, humor and drama this summer!

    YuYu Hakusho

A blast from the Toonami past, Yuyu Hakusho is an anime that many remember fondly as one of the most badass anime of the new millennium. The plot follows the actions of the smart-ass, high school delinquent, and number one brawler, Yusuke Urameshi. After sacrificing himself, leaping in front of a moving vehicle to rescue a small child, Yusuke is given a second chance by being reborn as the Spirit Detective, the person responsible for sending unruly, escaped demons back to their doom in the underworld. Although his assignments start out small, Yusuke's new job quickly has him stepping toe-to-toe with foes that threaten to destroy humanity and the world as we know it. Combining an onslaught of epic, and sometimes gruesome, action with a memorable cast of characters, and the hilarious dialogue and antics of Yusuke, YuYu Hakusho is a classic that is sure to find a place on your list of favorites.

    Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

One of the newest anime on this list, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is an ongoing series, currently in its fourth season in the U.S. The story begins in 19th century Europe, with the tale of Jonathan Joestar. After discovering an ancient mask with the ability to turn normal humans into vampires, Jonathan's adopted brother, Dio, begins a campaign to manifest a world of zombies under his immortal control. Although Jonathan finds success in ending Dio's original plans for domination, the intense evil within the stone mask ensures that this plot will reappear in the future. Therefore, rather than following a single hero, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure takes its viewers on a cross-generational journey, with each new season following a distant relative of Jonathan, battling the evil of the mask whenever it arises in the world. With this, Jojo will keep you on your toes and invested in the continuously changing lore of the mask and the many characters it influences. Add in an over sized helping of absurdity and humor, and some of the most stunning animations in the game, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure becomes the perfect summer show for anyone who wants a serious story that packs in the laughs.

    Naruto (Shippuden)

Possibly one of the most well known anime and manga series in the United States, Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, both with 200+ episodes, is the perfect pair of series for the long, midsummer binge. Following the story of Naruto Uzumaki in his quest to become the strongest ninja in the Hidden Leaf village. With a wide variety of story arcs, characters, and villains, Naruto may seem like a big investment. However, the intense and wonderfully animated action scenes, combined with witty humor and a deeply flushed out cast of characters, Naruto is sure to have you hooked by the end of the first episode.

    Attack on Titan

Although it's the shortest series on the list, Attack on Titan may well pack the biggest punch. Following an apocalyptic event that littered the surface of the world with giant, lumbering, humanoid titans, humanity was left with two options; be eaten, or retreat within the safety of three giant concentric, circular walls. The main plot begins with the appearance of a titan that dwarfs all others encountered by humanity, who proceeds to punch a massive hole in the outer wall. Following this attack, our main hero, Eren Yeager, witnesses his own mother being devoured by a titan, and vows to personally bring about the destruction of their twisted species. (oh yeah, did I mention this show is DARK) However, epic story aside, the highlight of Attack on Titan is the combat, as humans are forced to utilize three dimensional maneuvering gear, equipped with grappling hooks, twin blades and compressed air, that allows humans to take the battle against the titans into the air. Coupled with the stylistic beauty, available only with contemporary animation, Attack on Titan is a definite addition to your must watch list.
