There's A New Meme Where People Hit "Attending" On Random Parents Evening Facebook Events

These schools have to be really, really confused about all of this.

Earlier this week, a parents evening Facebook event organised by Norton Hill School in Bristol, England, ended up somehow getting 3,000 attendees.

The chaos didn't last long – the school has since shut down the page.

But it turns out the Norton Hill School parents' evening event was only one part of a much larger, weirder thing. The Ridgeway School & Sixth Form College in Wroughton, Wiltshire, appears to have been trolled to hell as well.

Ridgeway's event, which has also been shut down, got filled up with all kinds of insane comments and then went viral on Twitter.

The event was full of comments like these.

    Or these.

    Or these.

And it's happening to parents evening event pages all over Facebook at the moment.

Hersh Kataria, an 18-year-old university student, was one of the first people to start trolling a parents evening event organized by Whetstone Field Primary School. He told BuzzFeed News he saw a friend doing it and just joined in.

"I saw a friend click going on the event on my News Feed," he said. "I looked at the event and saw how everyone was taking the piss and found it absolutely hilarious."

He said he didn't think it was being organised by any particular Facebook group or anything and that it most likely just happened organically.

"I pressed going and then my friends saw it on their News Feed and then they clicked going, and it pretty much just chained on from there, so that's how it probably started in the first place," he said.

So if you're a school in the UK hoping to use Facebook to organise a parents' evening, you might want to set it to invite-only for a while.
