Heather Duquette didn't think her father, Ralph, would be able to walk her down the aisle for her wedding last week. Ralph was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012, and it left him wheelchair-bound.
"I was a little nervous when I didn't see him down there as I approached the doorway to make my entrance," Duquette told BuzzFeed Life.
"I was standing in the doorway that opened out to the garden and patio. My DJ began to play the wrong entrance song for me to walk down the aisle with," she said.
Then, she saw her father move from behind a speaker: The DJ had played the wrong song to give him some extra time.
"It was a total surprise," the groom, Dan Casoria, told BuzzFeed Life.
"Everyone was crying, not a dry eye — even me," Casoria said.
"I asked him, 'Are we really gonna do this?' And he said, 'I'm here aren't I?'" Duquette said.
Unbeknown to pretty much everyone, a nurse and a physical therapist had been helping Ralph regain strength in his legs since April.
After the extra-emotional ceremony, there was one more surprise: Ralph and Heather shared a father-daughter dance.
Her mother and brother supported him as they swayed to Al Martino's "Daddy's Little Girl."
"My father and I have been very close since he got sick," Duquette said. "I know how afraid of falling he is, so for him to put himself out like that in front of everyone, to have the courage to walk the way that he did was really amazing."
