The 5 Funniest Things About The Québec Values Charter

The Parti Québécois has released a proposed piece of legislation that would prevent public employees from wearing ostentatious religious symbols. If accepted, it would be the only charter of its kind in North America - and the sole explanation for the exponential increase in Canadians apologizing more than usual.

1. It's being advertised with this hilarious image:

The top image denotes acceptable forms of religious symbols, and the bottom, banned.

Basically: Ditch your religious headgear in favour of some stunning star and crescent earrings. Or a Star of David ring. Put aside the tenets of your faith because apparently, the bling factor in Québec is severely lacking.

The minister pioneering the charter, Bernard Drainville, was asked whether oaths would no longer be sworn on the Bible. His response?

"Oh my God. We'll get back to you."

3. You can opt out, but not really.

Firstly, the opt-out would only last 5 years, but religion is just a part-time thing, right?

Secondly, NO ONE WORKING WITH KIDS would be eligible.

Thirdly, if you think you need an 'opt-out' option, maybe it's a sign you're a dick.

Sounds ambiguous enough, particularly when Premier Pauline Marois claims women wearing hijabs and working in daycares could provoke children to practice religion.

In a perfect twist of irony, the crucifix hanging in the province's national assembly aka LEGISLATURE CHAMBER is one of several symbols deemed acceptable. So much for the goal of equality under a ~*~secular~*~ state.
