BBC1 showed a party election broadcast for the English Democrats just before The One Show last night.
The English Democrats is a rightwing English nationalist party. Its party election broadcast is pretty bizarre.
It started with a man in a field shouting "Let the English revolt commence!"
Then there was, inexplicably, a quick recreation of the opening titles from Coast.
While someone who sounded a lot like Billy Bragg sang a stirring folk song about how England is over a thousand years old.
Then this man, also in a field, said no to Sharia law.
And the singer implored England's sons and daughters to listen to him. "These words you can't ignore," he insisted.
Then this man said no to mass immigration. Presumably those first two men are somewhere nearby.
"Feel the pride, hear the call, from Land's End to 'Adrian's Wall. This is England, the land of St George."
And that's basically how the whole thing went.
Shaky hand-held footage of stirring English imagery.
People in fields saying no to stuff.
Lyrics like "Now, every Englishman, he knows the greatest beauty be an English rose."
Over and over. For six whole minutes.
Lots of people on Twitter mistook it for a clip from a sketch show.
Others were less impressed.
What the fuck was that party political broadcast from "the English Democrats" it actually offended me.
I'm English. The English Democrats can go fuck themselves. I hope that's Anglo-Saxon enough for them to understand.
Least of all Billy actual Bragg.
