8 Things We'll Miss About The MX Newspaper

"You were the girl with blonde hair eating a banana at Central Station. Coffee?"

News Corp has announced it's shutting down its free commuter newspaper, mX

News Corp confirmed the closure of the newspaper's Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane operations today, telling staff the decision was made as "a reflection of the changing reading habits of commuters who now turn to their mobile phones and tablets on their way to and from work," Mumbrella reports.

And while the paper will soon be gone, its fun, freaky spirit will live on. Here's everything we'll miss about mX.

    1. Here's looking at you.

This was the section where some love-struck weirdo who'd been heavy breathing over the babe on platform 9 for months would finally come clean.

"You: A leggy brunette who looks like she just wants to get to work on time."

"Me: That guy in the trenchcoat who cuts his fingernails on the train. Coffee?"

    Yeah, nah.

    2. The overheard section.

You know the one. Where a person hears an idiot say a stupid thing and we all laugh at the idiot so we can feel better about ourselves and distract from the monotony of our meaningless existence.

    Yeah, we'll miss that.

    3. The 'weird news' section.

This was where you'd read about a guy who got a hammer stuck up his arse when he slipped in the shower while doing some home renovations.

You just don't get that on the nightly news.

    4. Vent your spleen.

Where commuters would write in about things that give them the shits.

Yes, it is annoying when the waiter doesn't write your order down because they're remember it anyway.

    5. Reading mX then leaving it on the train for the next commuter because you're a good person like that.

    6. Lost in love.

"My name's Catherine and I'm in love with my barista. Every day he makes my double tall mocha latte and calls me Caitlin. Is it weird if I change my name?"

    7. When they would put our tweets in the paper because we were good at internetting.

    8. The person handing them out at the train station. Always with a smile on their face.

The final edition of mX will be published on June 12.
