Staffordshire police said officers attended an address on Audley Road just after 1am on Monday following reports of a burglary.

Police said the occupants of the property had left before officers arrived, leaving the man inside.

“During the incident, a Taser was discharged by officers and the man was taken to a police vehicle,” a statement revealed.

While in the vehicle, the man then became unresponsive and died a short time later.

Staffordshire police said an investigation was now under way and that the incident had been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
