Man Charged With Murder After Woman’s Body Is Found In Suitcase In London Canal

The body of Polish national Marta Ligman, 23, was discovered in the Grand Union Canal.

A 38-year-old man has been charged with murder after the body of a woman was found in a suitcase in a northwest London canal.

Marta Ligman’s body was recovered from the Grand Union Canal on Sunday.

On Wednesday morning, Thomasz Kocik, from Brent, was charged with murder.

He was arrested on Monday along with two other men, aged 34 and 30, who have both since been bailed.

Ligman, 23, was a Polish national and was living on Buckingham Road, as was Kocik. Her next of kin have been informed.

Detective chief inspector Simon Ashwin, of the Metropolitan police, said: "Whilst the body was recovered near to Little Venice it is highly likely that she entered the water further along the canal," the BBC reported.

Kocik appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court earlier today and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at the Old Bailey on Friday.
