What NOT To Bring To Your UW Residence Hall Room

Now that you know what you should bring, here are a few items that are NOT allowed in your Residence Hall.

1. Pets

Although adorable, none of these cute animals can come with you.

2. Halogen Lamps

Anything with a halogen light bulb is a huge fire hazard, so make sure to leave these at home.

3. Anything with Open Coils

Toasters, toaster ovens, fondue pots, and anything else that has an open coil is not allowed. We don't want anyone to accidentally set anything on fire.

4. Anything with an Open Flame

Yes, this does mean no candles or incense.

5. Air Conditioners (Even the portable kind)

Seattle weather is great and all, but trust me. You wont want one for most of the year, anyways. Bringing a small fan during spring quarter is definitely helpful, though!

6. Space Heaters

We know Seattle winters can be a little chilly, but everyone on West Campus has a thermostat in their room that they can use to warm up if needed. North Campus rooms are controlled by a central heating system, so you will be nice and toasty.

7. Tacks or Nails

Planning on hanging photos or decorations? Opt for wall adhesives that won't damage your room. Nails and tacks cause holes that you will be responsible for paying for.

8. Large Furniture

Your room will come with a bed, desk, wardrobe, and smaller set of drawers so there is no need to bring any of those items.

9. Drugs and/or Alcohol

Drugs are never allowed on campus. If you are under 21, you cannot possess or consume alcohol. However, if you are 21 or older you can possess and consume alcohol in your room (and your room only).

10. Weapons

Registered or not, concealed or not, decorative, and/or practical, weapons are never allowed on campus.
