3 Weeks In Japan: The Food Highlights

History is cool, food is better.

Konichiwa.

My name is Christine and I was luckily enough to spend 3 weeks traveling around Japan alone. Food is life (obvi), but while solo-adventuring, food quickly becomes something more: your travel companion. Here were the highlights:

Fried Green Tea Mochi at the Sensō-ji Shrine in Tokyo.

Rainbow Icee thing with sweetened condensed milk goodness at Osaka Castle. Much needed on a super hot day. Also it turned my mouth purple.

Green Tea soft serve with a new friend in Nara.

Not food, but still felt the need to note the moment. Paper cranes honoring Hiroshima's child victims at the Atomic Bomb Memorial Dome.

Legit the greatest effing donut I've ever had. Golden chocolate donut from Mister Donut at Itsukushima floating shrine on Miyajima Island. May or may not have gone back for two more.

Brown sugar (maple maybe?) ice cream at the pagoda of Seigantoji and Nachi no Taki waterfall. I hiked for three days through the mountains on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail to arrive at Nachi Taisha. The view and the snack were super worth it.

Matcha popcorn at Ryōan-ji zen garden in Kyoto. Peaceful af.

7-11 (don't judge me) chocolate donut at the base of Mt. Fuji. Surprisingly delicious, but the view was so striking it was hard to focus.

My only salvation during the 10 hour hike of Mt. Fuji: Pocky.

Needed another Golden Chocolate from Mister Donut to properly say goodbye. It has been real Japan. Hope to be back for more snacks.
