Good point! Thankfully, this particularly student was otherwise quite extroverted and enjoyed presenting as long as there wasn’t any reading aloud involved. It’s definitely a balance though, so talking with the student 1-on-1 in this way would be good.
High school English teacher here. When I was a student, my teachers would often do “popcorn” reading where students would read aloud and then throw the reading to their peer by saying “popcorn so-and-so.” It was generally a fun way to make sure people stayed engaged during read -alouds.
