The idea that gun ownership is declining requires two things. One, that you measure only the PERCENTAGE of households, as opposed to total number of households as the latter number has gone up, just not as fast as the population. Two, that you accept the idea that the percentage of people answering the survey in question honestly has stayed the same. Given the shift of the gun culture from primarily hunters to people owning guns ‘because fuck you that’s why’, that is almost certainly an erroneous assumption to make.
