Olympic National Park is home to the only temperate rainforest in the world, as well as one of the clearest lakes. Lake Crescent is so exceptionally transparent due to its unusual lack of nitrogen, which inhibits the growth of algae. It also has 300 species of birds, and over 650 archaeological sites.

Many signature reptile species inhabit the Saguaro National Park including gila monsters, desert tortoises, western coral snakes, and rattlesnakes. The Saguaro cactus can live for up to two-hundred years, and sometimes even longer.

Mammoth Cave is the longest cave system in the world with over 400 miles of surveyed passages. It was formed as surface water seeped through the ground and eroded the surrounding limestone, creating the gigantic caverns and passageways you can see today. The largest room in mammoth cave is said to be about two acres in size. Known as "the Bottomless Pit", a portion of the cave is 105 ft deep. Even still, there are  portions of the cave yet to be discovered.

Many people come here and take the cruises for the sole reason of bird watching. It is also home to the ice worm,  the only creature on earth known to spend its entire life on a glacier. Many other creatures like bears, porpoises, and whales also roam throughout the park on the land and in the sea. Kenai Fjords is also one of the only National Parks without an entrance fee.

Despite being a part of Utah's "mighty five", Canyonlands National Park is overlooked by many visitors. The largest and least visited national park in Utah, it is home to "the Needles", who's iconic zebra-striped rocks make it one of the most unique hiking destinations in the United States. Don't forget to pay a visit to the "Island of the Sky" as well as the "White Rim Road" for some unforgettable views.

Canyonlands National Park (UT)

Haleakala national park is home to a crater that is estimated to be one million years old. Legend has it that on the summit of Haleakalā, Maui snared the sun, in order to slow its passage through the sky so that his mother could dry her kapa (bark cloth). Haleakalā national park´covers more than 27 square miles and is split into two distinct parts.
