The majority of these ads are simply horrific… I’m not sure if the Tom Ford perfume ad necessarily belongs here though- I’d be quite curious to see why you interpret it as implying rape/lack of consent. What it says to me is more like “man being sexually desired by woman” or even “female masturbation/fantasising about a man”.
That is- my interpretation is not that she is pennetrated *against her will*- but that she is fantasising about the man who wears the perfume and therefore is sexually aroused by the perfume itself- so the product is being sold as “buy this and women will desire you and fantasise about you”. If penetration is suggested by the ad, my feeling is that it is *desired* penetration. Now, this is still problematic on many levels, but I’m quite happy to see an ad suggesting that women, rather than men, sometimes do the sexual desiring- as commodified as it needs nbe in a high fashion ad.
