The Best Unreleased Lana Del Rey Songs

Even more songs to give you summertime sadness.

    ~~ ATTENTION ~~

As you may or may not know, there are over a hundred unreleased Lana songs floating around on the internet. Years ago, the singer's laptop was stolen and then all of her songs ended up on YouTube and various other sites. The amount of songs is overwhelming, but these are the ones any fan definitely needs to hear.

    "Never Let Me Go"

One of Lana's most beautifully written songs, "Never Let Me Go" has an old, nostalgic tone to it. It sounds very different than her current music, yet it's so undeniably Lana. Lyrics such as "Drive me in your car until the sky gets big, never let me go" are just striking.

    "Backfire"

"Backfire" definitely sounds like it could belong on Born to Die. It is upbeat, yet has Lana's signature sadness in it. It also has the classic theme of dying for your man. "I know very well you're bringing me down; I will follow, I will follow for a little piece of heaven. I am ready, I am willing to drown."

    "Kill Kill"

This was the title track from Lana's first EP, and it's fantastic. It starts off slow, and it almost has a bluegrass vibe to it. The chorus is so simple, yet is sung so beautifully. You can feel the pain of her situation: "I'm in love with a dying man, I'm in love with a dying man. I have done everything I can, hmmmmm."

    "Prom Song (Gone Wrong)"/"Teenage Wasteland"

This song is such a gem. It sounds like it's straight out of the fifties-- two teenagers falling in love. It is so nostalgic and beautiful, and Lana's little rap has major "Off to the Races" vibes. The lyrics are beautiful but also fun and cheeky. "You used to say that I was beautiful like Cleopatra. But you the king too, so I would say 'back atcha!' I flip my hair and make you stare and put my make-up on. And make up stories about my life and put on very cherry bomb."

    "Angels Forever"

"Angels Forever" paints the picture of a beautiful California landscape and an elusive lover. The lyrics are rich with vibrant imagery: "Does the ocean inspire, easy rider? Do the stars and the wind take you higher? You are California proud, you are angels of the night. Rock 'n' roll guardians now, the last keepers of the light." The chorus is simple, again, but absolutely breathtaking. You can almost picture yourself driving down PCH with the top down, lifting your arms up to the sky.

    "Damn You"

"Damn You" is another more upbeat, yet still devastating song. Another lost love, but there are still so many memories. "Flowers in my hair and your breath smelled like whiskey, promised anywhere that I'd go, you'd be with me. Dancing on your feet like a child to the radio. Hello, hello, where did you go?" The greatness of this song lies in Lana's subtlety; the chorus is the same until the end, when she pulls out the rhyme you've been expecting since the beginning: "But I won't cry myself to sleep, like a sucker. I won't cry myself to sleep, if I do I'll die. I pray your life is sweet, you fucker. Damn you."

    "Serial Killer"

"Serial Killer" is probably Lana's most popular unreleased song. She even performed it on her Endless Summer tour. It's definitely one of her darker, almost angry songs. This isn't about a lost love, it's all about looking for that one night stand. "I do it for the thrill of the rush, I love you just a little too much."

    "Paris"

"Paris" is very different than Lana's usual stuff, but it's still amazing in its own way. It is definitely more upbeat, but still about a love that is on the road to ruin. All she wants to do is get that spark back: "Baby, say goodnight. Text me when you get home safely, like you did when we was first dating." The chorus takes you on a fantasy to the city of lights, where everything would be better. "Take me to Paris. Let's go there and never look back. Paris, we can be crazy like that."

    "I Don't Wanna Go"

This song has a similar sound to "Never Let Me Go," with a slow, bluegrass tone. It has the dreamy feel that is Lana's signature. "He got away, baby, he got away, oh baby, he got away with his words. They'd be like diamonds and pearls, they'd be like diamonds and pearls, he gives to his little favorite girls."

    "You Can Be The Boss"

Lana, is that you? Rocking a shorter blonde 'do, the singer is almost unrecognizable in this video for "You Can Be The Boss." The song is old and grainy but it's still so great. You can hear so much that definitely influenced her studio albums. "You taste like the Fourth of July, malt liquor on your breath, my my." This song is like a combination of "Off to the Races" and "National Anthem."
