When your life is in shambles, preparing a decent meal for yourself can be a huge victory.

When you're going through an awful time, feeding yourself can be a huge chore.

If you're grieving, recovering from trauma, or taking care of someone who is ill, you may find yourself eating a ton of fast food or surviving on hospital vending machine snacks; not having the motivation to cook and then letting fresh groceries go bad; or losing your appetite and simply not eating at all.

In those instances, finding a few moderately nutritious, somewhat cheap, relatively easy to prepare things to eat can be a game-changer.
