Here's A Genius Trick For Making A Fancy Chalkboard Sign

I tried a bunch of methods and found the best one!

Fancy chalkboards at weddings are a major trend right now.

But writing perfectly on a chalkboard doesn't always come easily.

So I tried a number of the tips recommended on Pinterest and found the easiest way to do it.

First, print out whatever words or design you want on your chalkboard.

If you need a different size, just resize it on a copy machine. (Warning: it might take a couple tries to get it just right.)

Then turn the paper over and rub the area where the text is with a graphite stick.

(You can get a graphite stick at Michaels or art stores.)

Tape the paper, graphite side down, to your chalkboard and trace over the outline of the text/design with a pencil.

Make sure you press down pretty hard.

When you remove the paper, your design will be visible on the chalkboard.

FYI, a lot of tutorials say to follow these same steps but use a piece of chalk instead of graphite; I tried that but found that it didn't transfer as well and I kept accidentally erasing parts of the outline as I worked. It also made a huge mess.

Using a chalkboard marker, trace and fill in the design.

I used the Craft Smart chalk marker set.

Note: While the marker is technically erasable, and you can easily clean up mistakes with a little water while the ink is still wet, I found that there was still an outline of the text after I washed the finished chalkboard with dish soap and water. But others say a little Windex will take it off completely, so you could try that if you need a ~clean slate~.
