Why The World Needs Abercrombie And Fitches

In an ever changing world of body image, there's still one group that is not being catered to in regards to clothing and acceptability. It's actually being shamed.

Skinny, muscular, cool. That's the pitch for Abercrombie and Fitch. The store that recently people have been hating on because of this. Well three words, "Get Over It!" As people have become more accepting of the larger, rounder body types, they've forgotten about a whole group of body types: the skinny tall.

This is my story (and my opinion) of why we need more stores like Abercrombie.

Ok, let's start out with an image in your head. Imagine a very tall, muscular, skinny boy, much like that which Abercrombie loves. Think of how many people you know who look like this. Do you have a number? Good. Keep it in your head. Now think about how many people you know who are obese. I've got a feeling that those numbers are seriously close to each other. This is because America is two sided. We are loosing our idea of hard work, to that of sitting behind a computer everyday. Gaining weight, and becoming accepting of that. Our acceptance towards those who are obese is something that cannot be tolerated. We have stores that are dedicated to those who need larger clothing items. People complain because there is not enough clothing sizes that fit their ever widening bodies. Well I've got four words for you: Get to the Gym.

Why is it that Americans now feel so inclined to love their body size. Being obese is not cool, and it will never be. Look at Wall-E, do you really want to end up that way in the future? No, and we should never. Today the world looks at Americans as a bunch of fat, ignorant, selfish, narcissistic, and lazy people. That is not America.

I feel like I'm alone here when I say that America was built upon hard work, not sitting down in a chair in front of a computer for days at a time without exercising. This is where my story comes along.

I absolutely hate, as in H-A-T-E department stores. Do you know why? It's because they serve to one size only. The modern, lazy American. My issue, I'm not a modern lazy American. I'm built much differently than that. I've got a 38 inch chest and 30 inch waist, but I'm 6' 2'', and extremely muscular. They don't make clothes that fit me in department stores. There are only a select number of clothing stores and designers that actually make clothing for the skinny tall anymore. The skinny tall used to be the norm, but with our acceptance of all body sizes, the skinny tall seems to have been forgotten.

Abercrombie is one of those retailers who haven't forgotten about the skinny tall. They make clothes for America and happen to be caught up in one of the biggest battles of all time with those who feel they are not making clothes for everyone. Simple fact, they shouldn't have to. If the department stores, and the obese clothing stores are specialty stores, then so is the Abercrombie. They have a place in society. Honestly, I love being skinny and fit. It's one of the best things in my life. I literally can eat a hometown buffet in one sitting and not gain anything. Your metabolism works like crazy when you're skinny and fit, and it's the greatest thing in the world.

I'm not trying to bash on those who are accepting of obesity however, I'm just saying that I'm proud to be a skinny tall. We're a small, but great group. Everyone has stores that make clothing for their body size, so stop picking on those who portray the true American body size. We are all unique, accept it. Think of it like this: Abercrombie and Fitch is the sport star on the Wheaties box for our generation to strive to look like.
