It's Time To See If You Could Actually Win The Triwizard Tournament

It's the fall of your seventh year at Hogwarts, and this year is another round of the legendary Triwizard Tournament. As you stare at the infamous Goblet of Fire, you contemplate the idea of becoming a Champion. Blue flames flick towards you like snake tongues, tempting you to toss your name in. What do you do?

It's Halloween night in the Great Hall. They've just read the names of the first two Champions and there has yet to be a Hogwarts Champion chosen. The Goblet spits out one last slip of paper and the Headmaster catches it. He reads it... AND IT'S YOU! How do you react?

You're finally in a room with the two other Champions. They're both at least several inches taller than you and extremely brawny. One of them even sneers when you walk in and says, "The Goblet picked *you*?" What do you say in response?

The first task is approaching, but you have absolutely no idea what to expect. What's your strategy?

The first task is here. You're ushered into a tent with the other Champions and you can hear the crowd cheering in the stadium. One of the judges hands you a tiny dragon figurine and tells you that this is the dragon you must face and steal a golden egg from. What's your inner monologue?

You drew third, and you have to wait in the tent while both of the other Champions face their dragons and try to steal the eggs. As you're listening to the terrifying sounds of the task, what else do you do?

You step out into the blinding sun of the stadium. The crowd roars. Fifty feet away is an absolutely massive smoking and snarling Romanian Longhorn dragon. Underneath her is the golden egg you must retrieve. What do you do?

Phew! Somehow or other, you made it past the dragon alive. It turns out the Golden Egg is a clue to the next task. When you open it, it lets out a terrible screaming sound. What do you make of it? 

The second task is upon you. You've found a way to breathe underwater (gillyweed, anyone?), and now you've swam all the way to the Mermish grotto, where you see your best friend tied up and unconscious. Time is running out to save them and swim back to the surface. What is your first thought?

You surface from the water and realize you've come in last for this task. In fact, you're last overall so far. How do you feel?

It turns out the other two Champions have been collaborating the whole year and sharing tips without you knowing! What do you do when you find out?

Night has fallen and the third task is about to begin. To win, you must be the first Champion to reach the Triwizard Cup in the center of the hedge maze. Surely there will be obstacles. How have you prepared?

You step into the maze, and suddenly all is silent. The hedges must be magically soundproof. You start running and turning corners until all of a sudden your path is blocked by... a cupcake? What's your next move?

You're past that mysterious cupcake, phew! Now out of nowhere a Blast-Ended Skrewt launches itself at you! What's the first spell you cast?

It's darker, quieter, and you've been running for a while. You turn the next corner and *there it is *— the Triwizard Cup! You run for it, but a golden Sphinx slinks out of the hedges, blocking your way. She says she has a riddle for you. If you choose to hear the riddle, you must answer it. Otherwise you can turn around and find another way. Which is it?

There is no choice but to answer. "First think of the game played in a duet, yet each side with 10 less than the alphabet. Next think of the colors that these armies wear, And imagine the small dark one ahead two squares. Empty indeed is the rest of the space, except for two rows standing in place. Now imagine the scene, and give it a go: the arrangement of this board — could it be so?"

You either answered the riddle correctly or somehow got around the Sphinx. Just a few more feet and you'll reach the Cup! What's your last thought before you grab the Cup's handle?

It wasn't easy, and you almost died a few times... but you did it! Thanks to your ingenious problem-solving, unwavering confidence, cleverness, might, and a little bit of luck, you reached the Triwizard Cup first. You won the Triwizard Tournament and your name will go down in Wizarding history. Crack open the butterbeer because it's time to celebrate for real. Your moment of glory has come!

YOU ARE THE WINNER!!!!!!!

You're running, running—you're almost to the Cup! But what's that? Someone dashes out of a passage in front of you, and before you know it they've reached the Cup first! Your dreams of victory, just moments ago so real, now come crashing to the ground.
You were SO close. Yet so far.

But don't be discouraged. You came in second! You might not be a winner, but you have a lot to be proud of. Thanks to your ingenious problem-solving, unwavering confidence, cleverness, and pure might, you not only survived the Triwizard Tournament, but you did very well indeed. Most wizards cannot even dream of accomplishing that. Go have a butterbeer!

SO CLOSE!

I'm sorry to say, but you came in third (also known as last). To be honest, you never quite had what it took to win. You made the wrong decision in a few critical moments, doubted yourself once or twice, and just weren't fast enough in the end. But don't despair! You're still a Champion, and always will be. That's a lot more than others can boast about.

Good try!

The Triwizard Tournament was meant to be safer this time around... but turns out it's still outrageously dangerous. A Champion perished today, and that Champion was you. Yes, that's right. Perhaps you were incinerated by a dragon, maybe you drowned, or even were trampled by a Blast-Ended Skrewt. One moment of hesitation, one wrong move, and that was that. You definitely didn't win. You met your end here. Sorry. Seriously though, who decided that the best way to "establish ties" between international Wizarding youth is to set them against each other, send them into perilous danger, and have one come out a virtual celebrity? What is this madness?

So much for making the Tournament safer...
