5 Celebrities Who Love the Outdoors

Some celebrities are known for more than their movies and music. A handful of celebrities are well known for their love of nature, too. From sustainable sirens to cool conservationists, these five celebrities forego glitz and glamour for planet-saving projects.

1. Darryl Hannah

Born in Chicago, the tall, blonde with blue eyes and a laid back personality has become the prototype of the modern California Girl. The earthy actress is big into sustainability. Her website, DHLoveLife, is dedicated to the dissemination of information regarding all things organic, conservation and the climate. She’s has been arrested numerous times for peaceful protests for causes such as preserving land for farmers, and most recently, protesting against the Keystone XL pipeline.

2. Cameron Diaz

Never mind her comments supporting urinating outdoors and in the shower. It’s no Hollywood secret that A-list actress Cameron Diaz is environmentally conscious. Diaz reportedly drives a Toyota Prius and follows the “if it’s yellow, leave it to mellow, if it’s brown, flush it down,” rule. In 2005, she had her on show, Trippin’, on MTV, an environmental documentary that took celebrities around the world to explore underprivileged areas. She wore an “eco dress” to the Met Ball in 2012, which was designed by Stella McCartney and was created using organic silk.

3. Ted Nugent

Ted Nugent is a character if there ever was one. He’s fervently against President Barack Obama, saying he would either be “dead or in jail” if the President were re-elected. He was recently invited to the State of the Union address by conservative Steve Stockman as a response to Obama’s gun control policy. Nugent is equally well known for his love of hunting. The 64-year-old Detroit native isn’t camera shy when it comes to being photographed with his game.

4. Matthew McConaughey

We’re all used to seeing paparazzi pics of the buff Magic Mike star. The 43-year-old Texas native is an exercise nut—so much that he had a trailer set up on the beach full of workout equipment. It’s not uncommon to see pics of McConaughey running on the beach, jumping rope, practicing Yoga, skateboarding and swimming. In 2008, he completed a triathlon in 1:43:48.

5. Bette Midler

In 1995, The Divine Miss M started the New York Restoration Project, a non-profit organization “dedicated to transforming open space in underserved communities to create a greener, more sustainable New York City.” The organization’s goal is to care for one million new trees throughout NYC by 2017. She has made it her mission to rescue and restore the city’s most neglected parks and trees.
