Urban Dictionary defines Dad Rock as:
"The standard set of albums from the 60s and 70s that every boomer likes. Boomers try to get younguns to listen to dad rock by loading up "best albums ever" lists with them. Dad rockers have no desire to listen to recent music and are stuck in the past."
I disagree.
Boomers are defined as a group born between 1946 to 1964, many of whom have had kids who have gone on to have kids themselves; the Dad Rock baton should be passed. The 'New Dad' was born after the 1964, and here are the bands that make the 40-something dad very, very nostalgic:
Radiohead OK Computer
Beck Mellow Gold
Nirvana Nevermind
Foo Fighters Foo Fighters
Beastie Boys III Communication
Stone Temple Pilots Core
Sonic Youth Goo
Black Crowes Shake Your Moneymaker
Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream
REM Out of Time
Jane's Addiction Ritual de lo Habitual
Pearl Jam Ten
Guns & Roses Use Your Illusion I & II
Red Hot Chili Peppers Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Billy Idol Charmed Life
U2 Achtung Baby
Obviously, there are more than 17 iconic hits from the 'Neo-Dad Rock' era, there are countless more. For now, Spotify, Amazon Music or Pandora these albums to transport into the recent past.
